The discovery of a $990,000 local match requirement may have dominated discussion during Monday's meeting of the Caswell County Board of Education, but it was just one of many items on the Board's agenda for March 9.

Immediately after that conversation, during which Vice Chair Joel Lillard made it clear he believed the Board of Education and Commissioners had been deceived about the 5% local match needed as part of the Oakwood renovations, staff began to present an update on the 888 Capital Reserve Fund. Staff explained that some bids related to the work funded by the special $888,000 allocation from the Commissioners have come in lower than expected so they anticipated having $146,000 still available. They were seeking guidance as to whether or not they should pursue identified capital improvements needed in the East Wing at the high school or at Stoney Creek Elementary, particularly given recent comments regarding the potential closing of that school.
