County Encourages Citizen Participation in Decision-Making
Each board/committee has a specific focus and is governed by its own set of bylaws, but they each shape the policies and systems impacting the people who live, work, and play in Caswell County.
In Caswell County, much of the decision-making authority falls to elected officials and other volunteers.
The Caswell County Board of Commissioners is responsible for appointing many of those individuals, who serve alongside county staff, elected officials, community partners and other county residents, on a variety of advisory committees and oversight boards.

New Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee
- Role - Advisory only (provides input on park and recreation programs)
- Structure - 5 members and 2 alternate members.
- Term - Three-year commitment.
- Representation - Each member represents a specific school district. (Alternates can be from any district).
- Eligibility - To avoid conflicts of interest, members may not serve on the Caswell County Recreational Development Foundation simultaneously.

- Board of Adjustments (1 seat for an alternate member) - Quasi-judicial decisions: Hears zoning appeals, variances, special and conditional use permits.
- Farmer Lake Board (2 seats and 1 seat for an alternate member) - To work with the Recreation Director and Farmer Lake Warden to plan and promote recreational activities and opportunities on Farmer Lake for the citizens of Caswell County.
- Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (3 seats) - To provide alternatives to youth offenders in lieu of being assigned to detention facilities.
- Library Advisory Board (2 seats) - The Library Advisory Board is appointed by the Caswell Board of County Commissioners to serve as a liaison between the library and its citizens. The board advises the library director and staff in matters related to the library and its services. In addition, the Advisory Board works to represent the library for all the citizens of the community and provide services that promote learning, creativity, personal and professional development as well as serving recreational needs. The Library Advisory Board further purposes to support the library staff in developing specific programs tailored for young children, youth and adults.
- Senior Center Advisory Committee (1 seat) - The Advisory Committee provides input regarding the overall operation of the Senior Center. In support of the mission, the committee raises funds to be used at their discretion to provide needed equipment or services not currently funded.

- Board of Adjustments (1 seat) - Quasi-judicial decisions: Hears zoning appeals, variances, special and conditional use permits.
- Board of Health (3 seats) - Serves as the policy-making, rule-making, and adjudicatory body for the County Health Department. Has the responsibility to protect and promote the public health and adopts rules necessary for that purpose. 11 members appointed by the Board of Commissioners according to categories (General Public, Physician, Dentist, Optometrist, Veterinarian, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, County Commissioner, Professional Engineer). Appoints a local Health Director.
- Person-Caswell Lake Authority (1 seat) - To control development and maintain the recreational potential of Hyco Lake.
- Senior Center Advisory Committee (1 seat) - The Advisory Committee provides input regarding the overall operation of the Senior Center. In support of the mission, the committee raises funds to be used at their discretion to provide needed equipment or services not currently funded.

- Board of Adjustments (1 seat) - Quasi-judicial decisions: Hears zoning appeals, variances, special and conditional use permits.
- ABC Board (1 seat) - Oversee operations of ABC System and carry out the ABC laws. Adopt rules for ABC System subject to the approval of the ABC Commission. Hire/fire ABC employees. Advise Administrator.
- Board of Health (1 seat) - Serves as the policy-making, rule-making, and adjudicatory body for the County Health Department. Has the responsibility to protect and promote the public health and adopts rules necessary for that purpose. 11 members appointed by the Board of Commissioners according to categories (General Public, Physician, Dentist, Optometrist, Veterinarian, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist, County Commissioner, Professional Engineer).
