Garson Selected to Succeed Meyer in Senate District 23 Seat
Garson will need to campaign for election to the seat this fall, facing a Republican challenger from Caswell County, Laura Pichardo
Jonah Garson, an attorney from Chapel Hill and the First-Vice Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party since February 2023, has been selected by the NC Senate District 23 Selection Committee to complete the former NC Senator Graig Meyer's term.
Meyer resigned his seat effective March 31 to accept a position at the NC Justice Center. His term was set to expire in December, meaning Garson must win the general election this fall to hold on to the NC Senate 23 seat, which includes Caswell, Person, and Orange Counties.
Caswell County Republican Laura Pichardo is running for election to represent NC Senate District 23.
Governor Josh Stein is expected to appoint Garson to the NC State Senate seat before the April 21 start of the NC General Assembly's Short Legislative Session.
