Historic Caswell Property Home to Largest Flowering Dogwood

Tour the house, learn more about its history and celebrate the Champion Dogwood, which is estimated to be over 100 years old.

Caswell's Champion Dogwood grows on property in Locust Hill that is steeped in history.

Caswell County is home to the state's largest flowering Dogwood tree (Cornus Florida). Property owners and history buffs believe that is cause for celebration and hope such an event might also help fund a historic preservation project.

Sterling Carter, the 5th great grandnephew of Calvin Graves, also believes it is a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy he says has been largely overlooked, despite significant, lasting contributions to the state of North Carolina.

Mr. Jack Pointer, a longtime Caswell County Educator who retired in 2001 was honored on Tuesday, March 31 during a special dedication ceremony to name the Jack L. Pointer Softball Field at Bartlett Yancey High School BYHS.
