Icy Roads Disrupt Schedules
Rescheduled meeting dates and Caswell Parish food pantry distribution
"I'm hoping that since we're prepared, this thing will miss us," was the sentiment voiced by many county leaders last week as the county braced for the weekend's winter storm.
We were indeed spared the severe damage and widespread power outages seen in areas like Nashville, Tennessee that received up to an inch of ice, but many roads in the county remain at least partially covered in ice, prompting cancellations and closings.
The Caswell County Board of Education meeting originally scheduled for Monday, January 26 was first rescheduled to Thursday, January 29 and is now scheduled for Monday, February 2 at 5:30pm. *Updated 1:31pm January 30 to note that the February 2 meeting has been cancelled. The Caswell County Board of Education will meet again on Monday, February 7 at 5:30pm.
The Caswell County Board of Health meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 27 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30pm.
The Caswell County Board of Commissioners have their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, February 2 at 5pm and the Yanceyville Town Council's regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 at 6pm.
The Southern Caswell Ruritan Blood Drive in memory of Tony Dabbs that was originally scheduled for Thursday, January 29 has been postponed. Organizers will confirm the new date when finalized.
Students in Caswell County Schools started their second semester on Thursday, January 22 but icy roads have kept them home this week, engaged in remote learning.
Piedmont Community College Campuses also remain closed.
Court schedules have also been significantly impacted by facility closures. If you had a case schedules, that case will be rescheduled and generally, notification of that new court date is sent by mail. However, you may contact the Caswell County Clerk of Court's office at (336) 459-4000, or your attorney for more information on how to proceed.
After having to cancel Tuesday's food distribution, the Caswell County Parish will have their food pantry open on Thursday, January 29. They caution that they will have limited parking, especially between the hours of 1oam and 1pm and encourage you to call them at (336) 694-6428 after 10am if you'd like to schedule a time to come. They plan to remain open until 4pm.
