Please Forgive the Mess

A note from the editor about the ads cluttering up the website.

Please Forgive the Mess

I hate having to click through multiple pop-ups when I just want to read a news article. I also knew when I launched Caswell News & Notes that advertising would be necessary.

Advertising revenue is critical for expansion of coverage and long term sustainability. I need to generate revenue and provide affordable advertising opportunities for local businesses. I'm also committed to providing readers with a user-friendly experience.

Digital advertising is a whole new world for me and I learn best by doing, but I don't feel right about practicing on local businesses.

So here I am, cluttering up my lovely website with Google Ads so I can figure out how to effectively use the tools available to manage digital advertising inventory, placements, and scheduling before I launch advertising packages to local businesses.

Please forgive the mess as I tweak placements, trying to find the balance between visibility and traffic for the advertiser and an enjoyable user experience.

At the moment, I think the ad placements are more obnoxious and cluttered when you access the site on a mobile device rather than a desktop or laptop computer, which seems rather unobtrusive. I'm working to fix that and appreciate your patience as I learn these new technologies and platforms.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to let me know if you're finding a placement (ad location) particularly nerve-wracking (it helps to include the type of device and/or browser you're using). During this test phase, Google is automatically connecting advertisers with the site. I have quite a few content controls in place and am keeping an eye on things, but please contact me immediately if you see any advertising content you find to be offensive or objectionable.

Again, thank you for your patience, and your continued support and encouragement! It is greatly appreciated.
