Rodney Adams provided the following responses to questions about his campaign to serve as Caswell County's Clerk of Superior Court.

Please describe your educational background, including any relevant credentials or specialized training.

Piedmont Community College - Associate Degree in Applied Science in Criminal Justice 

Averett University - Coursework towards completion of Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice

Guilford Technical Community College -  General Instructor Certification which enables me to develop, teach, evaluate and generate lesson plans and training courses for law enforcement and correctional personnel

Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission - Correctional Officer, Probation Parole Officer and Advanced Intensive Officer Certifications

UNC School of Government and Administrative Office of Courts - Certifications in Magistrate Training, Cyber Security, Civil Process and Procedures, Advanced Criminal Procedures as well as 24 years of annual continuing education.

Please describe your professional background, highlighting specific roles or responsibilities that have prepared you to be successful in the position you are seeking.

I have worked for more than 33 years in the criminal justice system. My background in corrections, probation and as magistrate has given me a broad and practical understanding of the justice system from multiple levels of responsibility.  I have enhanced my skill set as it relates to safety procedures, accountability, leadership, professionalism, and respect for the law. Serving in the judicial system has strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure, respond effectively in critical situations, work as part of a team and make sound decisions. I have developed strong skills in case management, documentation, confidentiality, communication and ensuring compliance with court orders. My experience has further prepared me to be Clerk of Superior Court through training others, supervising staff, interpreting and applying legal procedures, managing responsibilities with fairness and accuracy, assisting the public and supporting the efficient operation of the court system. My experience includes 24 years as a presiding judicial official over criminal matters, civil matters, small claims, involuntary commitments and adult/juvenile secured custody orders.  This experience has required me to read, interpret and apply the law while remaining neutral ensuring due process and managing the courtroom with authority, integrity and fairness.

Please describe your connection to, and vision for, Caswell County.

I am a lifelong resident of Caswell County as is my wife of 25 years, Amy Yarbrough Adams.  We were both raised and educated in Caswell County and our families have deep roots here.  I have worked for almost 34 years as a public servant in Caswell County.  

My vision and commitment as Clerk of Superior Court for Caswell County is to provide a court system that is easily accessible and efficient while maintaining accountability, integrity and fairness.

My vision and my hope for Caswell County is that we will experience growth while protecting our small town values. Caswell County is a strong close knit community where neighbors help neighbors and we show pride and respect for our rural and agricultural heritage. By investing in education, small businesses and infrastructure we can create a future where people see a reason to stay or return to Caswell County.

Please describe your involvement, whether volunteer service or membership, with community, non-profit, or service-based organizations, noting the difference between current and past involvement.

• Currently serve as a Member of the Caswell Crisis Response Collaborative Team.
• Previously coached at the Caswell County Parks & Recreation when my children were young. 
• Previous member of the Prison Emergency Response Team
• Previous member of the Probation Parole Emergency Response Team

As a judicial official, the NC Code of Judicial Conduct limits my ability to serve on many boards and committees.

My core values, the values I was raised with, have instilled in me the commitment to treat people with patience, kindness and compassion while being honest, humble and forthcoming with the truth.  My beliefs as a Christian have helped me to present myself with integrity, fairness and composure in both my professional and personal life.  My family and I attend Union Church.

Who are the individuals or groups that you look to for guidance? How would those influences and your experience shape the performance of your duties as clerk? Bearing those questions in mind, please take this opportunity to share more about why you have chosen to run for Clerk of Superior Court in Caswell County and what you envision for the Clerk’s office under your leadership.

The very essence of my core values are rooted in Christianity. My first priority is to love God and then to love my neighbors as I love myself. Both of these commandments require me to act with integrity, kindness, compassion, peacefulness and self control. I first look to scripture and prayer for guidance and I often look to trusted friends and mentors for wise and sound advice.  

Throughout my career I have cultivated a network of peers, mentors and friends to consult with, share ideas and problem solve while still maintaining confidentiality and impartiality. 

I have chosen to run for Clerk of Superior Court in Caswell County because I have the experience, leadership, and commitment to the court system and the citizens of Caswell County to further develop an office that ensures easy access, professionalism, respect, compassion and fairness to everyone. My experience in employee relations, staff management and training together with my experience as a presiding judicial official will create a smooth and seamless transition as Clerk of Superior Court.
