The Caswell News & Notes float in Yanceyville's 2025 Christmas Parade was inspired by the story of a 8-year-old little girl's letter to the editor of The Sun, a newspaper in New York. In 1897, Virginia O'Hanlan turned to The Sun when she wanted to know the truth about Santa Claus.

The Sun's editorial response, written by Francis Pharcellus Church, became the most published editorial in the English language. You can access the full text of this beloved Christmas classic HERE.

The letter and editorial as they first appeared in the September 21, 1897 issue of The Sun.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

And this year he brought Caswell County a reliable source for local news!
