Bartlett Yancey Students Experience Hamilton at DPAC
Band, chorus, and dance students from BYHS recently enjoyed a Broadway musical
Thanks to a Josephine S. Leister grant in the amount of $10,000, students from Bartlett Yancey Senior High School were able to see Hamilton, live on stage.
Students in the high school's band, chorus, and dance programs traveled to the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) on Friday, June 5 to see the smash hit Broadway musical.
DPAC describes Hamilton as "the epic saga that follows the rise of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton as he fights for honor, love, and a legacy that would shape the course of a nation. Based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and set to a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education."
Hamilton features book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. In addition to its 11 Tony Awards, it won a Grammy and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The trip included dinner at the Golden Corral in Roxboro.
Grant funds covered the full cost of the trip, including the activity buses and drivers.
