According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), excessive speed was the primary factor in a fatal April 12 collision at the Country Line Creek Bridge construction site on NC Highway 86 South when, just after 2am, a southbound Nissan Versa crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a northbound Jeep SUV.

The preliminary investigation did not identify factors contributing to the crash, but an NCSHP Collision Reconstruction Team (CRT) was in the county last week to get measurements at the site and download vehicle data.
