Fuller Creek Dam Removed
The 19-foot-high dam underwent repairs for cracks in 1991, but additional cracks observed during site visits in 2014, 2017, and 2023 had not been repaired.
The Fullers Creek dam was constructed in 1952 to create a water reservoir to supply water to the Town of Yanceyville. It was located just above the Fullers Creek Bridge on Old NC Hwy 62, where modern day West Main Street becomes Badgett Sisters Parkway.
A new 350-acre reservoir, S.R. Farmer Lake was built in 1986, becoming the Town’s primary water source.
According to project documents, “The dam and reservoir were abandoned in 1986 due primarily to extensive sediment deposition behind the dam, advanced age of the structure, and lack of suitable water quality.”
