Junior Firefighter from Pelham Completes Fire Academy
Approximately 500 hours of classroom instruction, hands-on training, physical fitness exercises, and skills assessments prepares cadets to become professional firefighters.
Tyler Newnam, a junior firefighter with Pelham Fire Department has successfully completed and graduated from Rockingham Community College’s Daytime Fire Academy. Newman was one of just 10 cadets to complete the intensive accelerated training program.
The Pelham Fire Department said Newnam is one step closer to becoming a North Carolina state-certified firefighter after spending his summer completing more than 500 hours of rigorous training to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a professional firefighter.
The Fire Academy is just one of many training opportunities available through Rockingham Community College's Fire and Rescue Training Program and includes approximately 500 hours of classroom instruction, hands-on training, physical fitness exercises, and skills assessments
