Milton's Infrastructure Funding Threatened by Grant Fees
The Town of Milton stands to lose nearly $4 million in potential grant funding if it cannot come up with the cash to cover associated fees.
Milton Mayor Angela Upchurch shared with the Milton Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, September 8 that the Town had not received any Letters of Intent to Fund or other official award notifications related to just over $4.7 million requested for state funding for water infrastructure improvements but cautioned that there would be significant barriers to accepting any awards offered.
According to public documents provided during the July 15 meeting of the State Water Infrastructure Authority, the "Milton DeW - Water for Tomorrow" project ranked third in points among Drinking Water Applications proposed for full funding.
Upchurch reminded the Board that Milton had applied for the funds to cover the cost of new water mains, new meters, extending lines to Race Track Road, and any other costs associated with the construction of a secondary well. She explained that the state had proposed to fund just over $1.7 million of the request through a loan.
