School Board Faces Tough Faculty Funding Decisions
Like the county, the school system can no longer depend on fund balance to cover recurring expenses. Without additional revenue, spending cuts will be necessary.
The Caswell County Board of Education was reminded by their auditor on Monday night that current spending levels would exceed revenues without the Education Stabilization Fund (ESF), a federal COVID-19 relief package managed by the U.S. Department of Education to help schools, universities, and students recover from pandemic-related disruptions.
"Partially you have a revenue problem, but it's mostly a spending problem," Adam Scepurek, CPA, with Anderson Smith & Wike PLLC explained to the Board during the April 13 meeting.
Caswell is not alone.
