School Board Rejects FY 2027 Budget, Calls for Deeper Cuts
After receiving feedback from the Board, staff reduced the budget's fund balance appropriation to $423,842 but on Monday, August 24, they were told to cut more.
The Caswell County Board of Education directed staff to cut an additional $123,842 from its Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 local budget to reduce the amount of fund balance allocated to $300,000.
The Board of Education originally approved last year's FY 2026 local budget expecting to use $624,234 in fund balance. They later increased that projected amount to $782,923 but ultimately used $409,548 (based on unaudited financial statements). The current FY 2027 local budget initially proposed at the August 10 meeting of the Board of Education appropriated $511,000 in fund balance.
