The Literary Chef on the Art of Conversation
Lucindy ponders if perhaps the true gift of outdoor dining is the permission to linger.
Some summers ago, longtime friends from Lake D’Arbonne in Louisiana stopped by for a brief visit on their way to Boone for their niece’s graduation. Sadly, we only had a single evening together, but sometimes one evening is enough to remind you why old friendships matter so much.
The best part of the visit unfolded on the back deck as we lingered over dinner while a soft breeze drifted in off the lake. Something about dining beside water slows time. Conversation lengthens. People settle deeper into their chairs. Nobody seems eager to leave the table.
