A few days ago, I stood in the grocery store holding a familiar yellow box of Goya Spanish-style rice that I have been buying for years. It has always been one of my comfort foods — quick and flavorful, and so much better than bland, white long-grain rice for my rice bowl that I eat several times a week.

This time, for the first time, I actually stopped and read the ingredient label. What I discovered was eye-opening.
