Three Dead, One Transported to Duke in Prospect Hill Shooting
Sheriff confirms that everyone killed or injured was over the age of 18 and related.
Three people are dead and another has been transported to Duke University Hospital following a shooting at 352 Brooks Road in Prospect Hill.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office responded to 911 call just before 8am on Wednesday, August 5. Deputies arrived on scene to find multiple people with gunshot wounds.
Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the suspected shooter is among the deceased. He also confirmed that everyone killed or injured was over the age of 18 and related.
The Sheriff said that next of kin had been notified but that, "out of respect for the family," the victims' names would be released at a later time.
In response to questions from the media as to whether anyone in the family had contacted the Sheriff's Office in recent days, Durden reported that he had no record of his office being contacted by the family in the days leading up to the incident.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office immediately requested the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). SBI Crime scene investigators are on scene processing evidence and conducting interviews.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office issued two alerts via its mobile app - the first advised people to avoid the area. The second alert confirmed that the event was contained to the Brooks Road residence and that there was no threat to the general public.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency on this case. They are assisted by the SBI, the NC State Highway Patrol, the Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS, Caswell County Emergency Management, Caswell County 911, and the Person County Sheriff's Office.
