The North Carolina High School Sports Association (NCHSSA) has recognized nine student athletes with the 2026 Heart of a Champion Award. Two of those students are from Bartlett Yancey High School.

Dalleon Johnson, who was a Junior at BYHS this past school year, and Melanie Pinto, a member of the Class of 2026, were each honored with the Heart of a Champion Award, which recognizes student-athletes who exemplify excellence both on and off the field.

According to the NCHSSA, honorees participated in at least one varsity sport during the school year while maintaining an ejection-free record.

A press release from the NCHSSA said, "these individuals have demonstrated outstanding character, overcome adversity, and gone above and beyond in their pursuit of success."
